Geometric Shapes Building Fun

The Geometric Shapes Building Fun board comprises of 3 of the most common shapes a square, a triangle and a circle (in 4 colours). These are subdivided equally into different smaller pieces quarters, sixths and eighths. The children can place these on to a table for open ended play, stacking and discovery learning and in doing so will be using the vocabulary associated with the shapes and sub-divisions. They can also use the pieces more formally on the board to get a better understanding of the construction and decomposition of other geometric shapes such as a trapezium, isosceles triangle and parallelogram. Using regular mathematical shapes smaller pieces can sometimes combine to create larger versions of the same shape such as 4 small squares combine to make a larger square, 4 equilateral triangles combine to create a larger equilateral triangle. To help children with their ideas, the board is printed with some of the possible shape combinations. Using the board will greatly understand children’s knowledge of shapes and their properties.
